Identifying and Overcoming Systemic Oppression.
April 4-5, 2025
9am - 5:30pm
This 2-day training is for anyone who wants to make a difference, from the timid to the courageous who want to increase tools, competence, and confidence to advocate for fairness for any marginalized group whose civil liberties are systemically undermined. We will focus on race/ethnicity/white privilege, however our work is applicable to any category of oppression.

Objectives
Understand the range and origin of systemic oppression and the unscientific, greed-motivated creation of race that “baked in” institutional oppression and white supremacy.
Integrate the therapeutic, family systems model of clinical social worker, Virginia Satir, with the fields of anti-racism, trauma, and non-violent social change.
Foster anti-racist identities in our work and personal lives.
Explore your family history, the architect of your process for dealing with injustice, and which modeled for you the capacity to witness, feel, discuss, and react to a system of unequal access to benefits and privileges.
Understand generational trauma and how that history impacts you now.
Experience tools for empowerment, support, constructive action, and recovery.
Develop allies and personal accountability.
Transform strong feelings into constructive action, what Civil Rights icon, John Lewis called, “Making Good Trouble”.
Experience a living case study of a local community impacted by systemic racism, and their advocacy efforts to empower and recover.
Workshop Approach
Utilizing the humanistic, empowerment model of Virginia Satir, we will create a safe, supportive learning community that recognizes and appreciates our diverse perceptions, beliefs, and feelings. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with others authentically and congruently, as we tackle the challenge of dismantling systemic oppression and white supremacy.
The workshop will be both didactic and experiential including large group presentations, small group exercises, family mapping, body work including sculpting and psychodrama, mindfulness and meditation.
